As First Year Students, you will have a lot of advice thrown at you about how to be successful in college. “You need to study for one hour for every hour you spend in class.” “Your study habits will be a lot different than they were in high school.” “You’ll have to put in the time if you want to get anything out of this course.” This advice is not only intimidating, but it doesn’t tell you a lot.  In this section, College Learning- Strategies for Student Engagement and Success, you will learn that success skills play as important a role in college success as intelligence.  Success in college isn’t as hard as you may think.  Yes, it takes time and effort, but by following the techniques in this chapter, you will find success here at Harper and throughout your journey in higher education.
